Ed Sheeran Releases New Single ‘Drive’ for Upcoming F1 Film Soundtrack
Leading up to the release of the highly anticipated Formula 1 movie, Ed Sheeran has unveiled his latest single, "Drive," which features guitar work from John Mayer and drumming by Dave Grohl. The track is part of a star-studded soundtrack that includes contributions from Tate McRae, ROSÉ, and Chris Stapleton.
Produced by Sheeran alongside Blake Slatkin and Mayer, "Drive" is characterized as a quintessential rock anthem tailored for high-speed excitement. Sheeran described the creation process as serendipitous, stating, "the song fell out of us" during a studio session, emphasizing Mayer’s creativity with an octave pedal to enhance the musical experience.
"I got asked to do a song for the F1 movie, and I knew that I wanted to make a proper rock song for it," Sheeran remarked in a Billboard interview, underscoring his intent to craft a driving anthem that resonates with motorsport enthusiasts. He expressed his enthusiasm for the creative synergy with legendary musicians like Pino Palladino and Dave Grohl, describing it as a "pure dream team."
Highlighting his dual passion for music and film, Sheeran acknowledged, “Movies are my hobby…being a part of the journey of a movie is so exciting for me.” He hopes "Drive" will enhance the film’s narrative landscape, adding, “I’m so honoured to work with such great musicians on it.”
