Tribute to Eddie Jordan at Silverstone
During the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, the motorsport community paid homage to Eddie Jordan, the renowned founder of the Jordan F1 team, who passed away on March 20, 2025. The event featured on-track demonstration runs, car displays, and a memorial that attracted several legends of the sport, including Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Johnny Herbert, and Damon Hill, who notably performed a guitar tribute in front of fans.
Jordan, who established his team in 1991, significantly impacted Formula 1 until 2005, later transitioning to broadcasting with BBC Sport and Channel 4. As a co-host of the Formula For Success podcast with David Coulthard, Jordan continued to engage with motorsport fans until his illness.
Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle participated in the tribute by driving his 1983 Formula 3 car, recalling the nostalgic energy of the event on social media: "Drove my 1983 F3 car at Silverstone GP today in the Eddie Jordan tribute run. Brought back so many memories."
Several iconic cars graced the static displays, including the 1987 Reynard 873, which Herbert used to secure the British F3 title, and the 1991 Jordan 191—Michael Schumacher’s debut F1 chassis. The 2000 EJ10, distinguished by its vibrant yellow ‘Buzzin’ Hornets’ livery, and the 2003 EJ13 from the Brazilian Grand Prix, were also showcased.
Among the demonstration runs, significant vehicles included the 1983 Ralt RT3, driven by Brundle; the 1989 Reynard 89D, which carried Jean Alesi to the International F3000 title; and the 1994 Jordan 194, which marked the team’s first podium and pole position. The 1995 Jordan 195, piloted by Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine, added depth to the celebration of Jordan’s legacy.
The event highlighted the profound impact Jordan had on F1, and it served as a poignant reminder of his contributions to the sport.
