Hamilton and Leclerc Address Elkann’s Comments Ahead of Las Vegas Grand Prix
In the lead-up to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have publicly clarified their positions following remarks from Ferrari chairman John Elkann, who suggested that drivers should “focus on driving and talk less” after Ferrari’s double-DNF at the São Paulo Grand Prix.
Hamilton, maintaining that he has a strong relationship with Elkann, emphasized his regular communication with the chairman. “John and I, we speak every week. I didn’t have a reaction to it. I don’t really look into those things too much,” Hamilton stated. He further stressed the importance of collective accountability within the team, indicating that everyone at Ferrari shares the responsibility for their performance. “We’re all fully committed to turning this around,” Hamilton added, expressing gratitude for the team’s dedication despite the current challenges.
Leclerc echoed Hamilton’s sentiments, affirming his own strong rapport with Elkann. “John called me before [his comments], just like he does after every race, to catch up,” Leclerc said. He reassured supporters that the team is aligned in their goals: “I will do absolutely everything in order to bring Ferrari back to the top.”
Both drivers reiterated their commitment to Ferrari’s legacy and shared their belief in the team’s potential for improvement. “We are united,” Leclerc emphasized, reflecting on the internal dynamics of the team amid external scrutiny.
The comments from Elkann, intended to inspire, were characterized by both drivers as clear and constructive. As Ferrari approaches the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the focus for both Hamilton and Leclerc remains on performance and unity within the team.
