Mercedes Dominates Canadian Grand Prix with Impressive Performances
Montreal, Canada – Mercedes secured a remarkable weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix, marking a significant moment in their season. George Russell clinched pole position and maintained his lead throughout the race, ultimately securing victory. Notable performance also came from rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who advanced from fourth on the grid to finish third, marking his first podium in Formula 1.
“It was much better than what I imagined,” Antonelli remarked after the race, clearly moved by the podium experience. “Hearing the crowd while walking onto the podium, I had massive goosebumps. It’s a moment I will remember for a very long time.”
Antonelli’s performance was not without its challenges. In the closing laps, he faced intense pressure from the McLaren rivals. Reflecting on the difficult final stint, he said, "I pushed a bit too hard behind Max [Verstappen] and eventually degraded the front left. The last few laps were a struggle, especially seeing Oscar [Piastri] getting closer in the DRS range.”
Russell praised Antonelli’s development, which has been accelerated through their team dynamic. Antonelli acknowledged the contribution, stating, “There’s a really good dynamic in the team. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum into the next few races.”
Mercedes has identified areas for further improvement, particularly in qualifying performance. “I’m still aware there’s a lot of work to do,” Antonelli added, emphasizing their commitment to sustaining competitive momentum as they move forward in the season.
