Hamilton’s Struggles with Ferrari Highlighted by Binotto
Former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has commented on Lewis Hamilton’s challenging transition to the Scuderia, emphasizing the difficulties faced by the seven-time world champion after moving from Mercedes at the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton currently finds himself sixth in the drivers’ standings, having only secured a victory in the Chinese sprint race. His adaptation to the SF-25 remains problematic, with teammate Charles Leclerc sitting fifth, 23 points ahead, and also experiencing challenges adapting to the car’s performance.
Binotto remarked on the team’s performance, stating, “It’s clear that the performance on the track and the results are not good at the moment. However, I am confident in every single member of that team; they are strong and capable.” He expressed optimism, foreseeability improvements as the season progresses, and added, “Ferrari can get some satisfaction this year.”
Regarding Hamilton’s age and timing, Binotto noted, “Ferrari took him when he was already at the end of his career. The ideal would have been to have him a few years earlier,” suggesting that the legendary driver’s experience may not be fully leveraged in the current scenario.
Following the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton expressed frustration, stating, “It was not a great day… I just had a really bad day and have nothing to say.” He later apologized for his demeanor to Sky Sports F1 reporter Rachel Brookes, reflecting a sense of the pressure he faces in this new role.
As Ferrari sits second in the constructors’ standings, trailing only McLaren, the team hopes that improvements can elevate their competitive edge and elevate Hamilton’s performance this season.
