Franco Colapinto Crashes Out in Q1 at British Grand Prix, Remains Confident Amid Rumors
Franco Colapinto faced a challenging start to the British Grand Prix weekend, crashing out in Q1 during qualifying on Saturday at Silverstone. The Argentine driver lost control of his Alpine car with eight minutes remaining, resulting in a spin that sent him into the barriers. After initially recovering and returning to the pits, he was instructed to stop his car at the exit of Copse corner, leading to a red flag.
Colapinto reflected on the incident, stating, "I just lost the rear in the last corner. I was going on power and I clipped the wall. A bit of a pity…" He acknowledged ongoing struggles with car performance but noted positive steps made over the weekend: "We found a lot of things to make me feel a bit better with the car, closer to Pierre, but we are still far.”
Since replacing Jack Doohan in May, Colapinto’s future with Alpine has been uncertain, with rumors suggesting potential changes ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix on July 25-27. "I’m not very concerned. There are always talks. I just need to keep working and trying to help the team improve the car," he said.
Starting from 20th on the grid, Colapinto may move up to 19th due to a 10-place penalty handed to Haas driver Oliver Bearman. The race itself is critical for Colapinto to build on his performance as he seeks to solidify his position within the team.
