Mexico City Grand Prix Report: Haas and Bearman Shine Amidst Clash of Titans
The Mexico City Grand Prix was highlighted not only by the intense rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen but also by an impressive performance from Oliver Bearman of Haas. Finishing fourth without any retirements in front of him, Bearman’s achievement stands out in a race filled with drama.
Bearman, who made his FP1 debut with Haas two years ago, showcased his capabilities once again. Team Principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his admiration for Bearman’s performance, particularly on the opening laps. “Very, very impressed [with Bearman],” Komatsu noted, referencing Bearman’s adept handling of early pressure and his successful defense against Verstappen. “We held our own. It was a whole team effort,” he added, highlighting a swift 2.2-second pit stop as a key contributor to the team’s success.
Bearman himself acknowledged the pressure, stating, “Honestly, I was s****ing myself going side-by-side with Max.” His strategic approach, including a two-stop pit strategy, allowed him to fend off competitors, ultimately finishing fourth—matching Haas’ best-ever result in Formula 1 history, a record set by Romain Grosjean in 2018.
With this performance, Haas rose to eighth in the constructors’ championship, eyeing the sixth-placed Racing Bulls just 10 points ahead. The late-season upgrade on the Haas F1 VF-25 proved beneficial, reaffirming the team’s decision to push for improvements.
Komatsu, reflecting on the emotional weight of the race for the team, stated, “If you don’t get emotional about a day like this, when are you going to get emotional?” He commended contributions from all team members, underscoring the hard work that led to this pivotal moment.
As the championship picture shifted—Lando Norris taking the lead—Bearman’s performance signals a growing potential for Haas as they look ahead to the remaining races. While the battle for the championship continues to intensify, the spotlight in Mexico shone brightly on Haas and Bearman, marking a significant step forward for the team.
