Imola Excluded from 2026 Formula 1 Calendar
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola has been excluded from the 2026 Formula 1 calendar, a decision confirmed by F1 on June 10, which includes the newly announced Madrid Grand Prix among its 24 races. The announcement has prompted a strong response from Imola’s Mayor Marco Panieri and regional President Michele de Pascale.
In a joint statement, they expressed their disappointment: “This is news that understandably generates questions, disappointment and a sense of bitterness. Our territory has proven its capability to host an extraordinary event, combining international prestige with tangible economic benefits for our region.”
The pair emphasized the unique appeal of the Imola GP, noting its popularity among fans and drivers alike. “Its uniqueness in the world was evident: uniting the race on the track with the surrounding territory, from a historic center to be experienced,” they stated.
Despite the setback, Panieri and de Pascale remain optimistic about the future of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. “This news is by no means the final word; the path forward is not over,” they asserted. They cited the 2021 contract that ensured the race’s return until 2025 and highlighted their commitment to securing the event’s return through transparency and collaboration.
They also reinforced the Municipality of Imola’s readiness, having allocated resources for 2026 in anticipation of this year’s race, which was canceled due to severe flood events.
“This is not the time for controversy,” they concluded. “Now is the time for everyone to take responsibility and resume discussions for a return to the calendar.”
