Kimi Antonelli Poised for Miami Sprint After Securing Pole Position
Miami, FL – Kimi Antonelli, the latest rookie sensation from Mercedes, has captured the attention of the motorsports world by clinching pole position for the Miami Sprint race. At just 18 years old, Antonelli is set to become the third-youngest rookie in Formula 1 history, following his promotion after Lewis Hamilton’s departure from the team.
In a recent interview with Motorsport.com, Antonelli described his integration into the F1 drivers’ WhatsApp group, where he is currently a passive participant. “I’m the least active, actually,” he remarked, indicating he’s observing the dynamics before actively contributing. He noted that George Russell and Carlos Sainz are the most vocal, serving as primary figures within the group due to their roles as GPDA leaders.
Antonelli is also the focus of a new documentary titled The Seat, a collaboration between WhatsApp and Netflix, premiering Monday. This 45-minute film offers an intimate look at the discussions leading to his promotion, showcasing the behind-the-scenes efforts of the team and the extensive work involved in the filmmaking process.
Reflecting on the experience, Antonelli stated, “I feel very privileged. It’s really cool to get more known worldwide.” He expressed excitement about sharing his journey, highlighting that the documentary will include relevant professional communications and omit more private conversations.
As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, Antonelli’s rookie status and promising talent are set to keep fans and experts alike on high alert.
