Hamilton Struggles to Adapt at Ferrari Amid Championship Challenges
Emilia-Romagna GP Preview: Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, has expressed the difficulties he faced in adapting to Ferrari during the 2025 Formula 1 season. Transferring from Mercedes after a dominant 12-year tenure, Hamilton currently sits seventh in the championship standings after six races, significantly trailing his teammate Charles Leclerc.
"I came in with a really open mind. I didn’t know how tough it was going to be," Hamilton stated. "It’s as challenging as it could ever be on all fronts." Despite expectations for Ferrari to compete for the championships this season, the team’s performance has fallen short, with Hamilton now 90 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri.
Hamilton noted, “There’s still a long, long way to go. When you’re over 100 points behind at this point in the season, you have to assume you’re not necessarily fighting for the win in the championship.” However, he remains hopeful, emphasizing that "things could turn around," citing the potential impact of forthcoming upgrades.
Ferrari has brought minor updates for this weekend’s race at Imola, but significant improvements are slated for the upcoming race in Barcelona. In that race, the FIA will implement a new technical directive to curb the use of flexible wings.
While Hamilton has shown promising speed, including a pole-to-win performance in the Shanghai sprint, he acknowledged the unpredictability of the situation. "At the moment, I can’t tell you whether we’re going to gain full tenths, half a second, or a second by the end of the season," he remarked.
Hamilton concluded by noting the need for a collective push for victory: “If every single one of us can pull out half a tenth each, then maybe we can just get there.”
As the Emilia-Romagna GP approaches, the pressure mounts on Hamilton and Ferrari to enhance their performance and reclaim competitiveness in the challenging 2025 season.
