Lawson Responds to Brown’s Claims on Verstappen’s Impact at Red Bull
In a recent media briefing ahead of the British Grand Prix, McLaren CEO Zak Brown suggested that Red Bull Racing would lag behind their rivals without star driver Max Verstappen. Brown emphasized the significance of Verstappen’s contributions, stating, "Red Bull would be behind Racing Bulls… Max is carrying them at the moment."
These comments arise amid ongoing speculation regarding Verstappen’s potential move to Mercedes. Mercedes chief Toto Wolff confirmed that discussions are occurring, adding weight to the rumors but clarifying that no formal agreements have been reached.
Responding to Brown’s comments, Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson expressed skepticism, asserting, "I don’t think Zak Brown understands, honestly." Lawson, who was initially signed by Red Bull to replace Sergio Perez, currently races with Racing Bulls after being reassigned.
As the season unfolds with 11 races completed of a 24-race calendar, Red Bull sits fourth in the constructors’ standings with 162 points—155 of which were scored by Verstappen. Yuki Tsunoda, now at Red Bull, has managed only seven points, while Lawson has collected 12 points for Racing Bulls, placing him 15th in the drivers’ standings.
Racing Bulls currently holds the sixth position in the constructor rankings with 36 points, reflecting the challenges both Lawson and Tsunoda face this season.
