Piastri Addresses Performance Struggles Ahead of Sao Paulo GP
Sao Paulo, Brazil – Oscar Piastri has clarified the reasons behind his recent performance dip in the lead-up to the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Despite questions from fans regarding potential favoritism from McLaren, Piastri firmly rejected any notion of sabotage affecting his championship aspirations.
Following Lando Norris’ victory in Mexico City, which propelled him to the championship lead for the first time since April, Piastri encountered back-to-back challenging weekends. “No, it’s not the case,” Piastri stated regarding sabotage claims. “There’s not really too many mysteries on what’s happened. Everything is explainable.”
Piastri expressed optimism as he prepares for the upcoming races, attributing his struggles to adjustments in his driving style. “I feel much better prepared… we’ve got pretty clear answers on why that’s the case,” he said, reaffirming his confidence in McLaren’s approach.
Despite a shift in championship standings, Piastri emphasized the importance of maintaining the team’s current dynamics. “I want to win the championship on my own merit… it’s a difficult dynamic with two cars competing,” he noted, recognizing the challenges of team competition.
As he approaches the Brazil weekend, Piastri reiterated his focus on performance. “For me, the mindset all year has been about trying to have the best weekends I can,” he stated. “I’ll be trying to just go as fast as I can and take the same risks I normally do.”
