Red Bull Fined Following U.S. Grand Prix Incident
Red Bull Racing has been fined €50,000 ($58,000), with €25,000 ($29,000) suspended for the remainder of the season, due to a breach of protocol during the recent U.S. Grand Prix. The incident occurred when a team member entered the pit wall area after the formation lap had commenced, reportedly attempting to remove a piece of tape placed there by McLaren to assist driver Lando Norris in lining up his car at the grid.
Norris addressed the situation lightheartedly, noting, “It’s amusing because they got a penalty for something I didn’t even need. They tried to remove the tape but failed, which just added to the humor.” He explained that the tape was intended as a backup reference, should he need it to correctly position his car on the grid.
Max Verstappen also commented on the fine, acknowledging that while different practices among drivers are understandable, the core reason for Red Bull’s penalty was justified. “There’s a yellow line in the grid box; you just park your car based on that,” Verstappen stated. He emphasized the importance of adhering to procedures, particularly regarding the timely closing of pit gates, which led to Red Bull’s infraction.
Both drivers expressed amusement over the incident, underscoring the competitive spirit within the paddock. As excitement builds for the upcoming race in Mexico City, the focus will remain on how teams prepare and adapt within the strict regulatory framework of Formula 1.
