Mexico City Grand Prix: Norris Claims Championship Lead with Dominant Performance
Lando Norris delivered an exceptional performance at the Mexico City Grand Prix, winning from pole position and securing the championship lead for the first time this season. The McLaren driver finished over 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Charles Leclerc, marking the largest margin of victory in his career.
Norris, who has consistently improved throughout the season, expressed that this weekend showcased his best overall performance to date. “I think it’s the one where I just performed the best,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of consistency across all sessions from practice to the final lap of the race.
With a strategic approach, Norris has surged from 34 points behind teammate Oscar Piastri after a difficult outing in Zandvoort to now leading the championship by a single point as the season heads into its concluding rounds. “You put [Zandvoort] behind you… every weekend’s new,” he added, reflecting on his recent form.
Despite his triumph, Norris is mindful of the challenges ahead. He noted that Max Verstappen has outscored both McLaren drivers since the summer break and currently sits just 36 points behind after securing third place in Mexico. “It’s still pretty tight between us,” Norris acknowledged, indicating the competitive landscape of the championship.
As the final races approach, Norris remains focused on maintaining consistency. “I keep my head down, ignore all of this and keep to myself, and it’s working at the minute,” he concluded, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense finish to the season.
