Alain Prost Remembers Ayrton Senna as Miami Grand Prix Approaches
In a poignant tribute on social media, four-time Formula 1 champion Alain Prost marked the 31st anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s passing with a simple caption: "remembering." This remembrance comes just days before the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, reinforcing the enduring legacy of their intense rivalry.
Senna and Prost, teammates at McLaren in 1988, epitomized competitive excellence, clinching 15 out of 16 races that season. Their rivalry, particularly during the 1989 San Marino Grand Prix, highlighted significant tensions when Senna overtook Prost, violating a pre-race agreement. This incident intensified their longstanding feud, which persisted until Prost’s retirement in 1993.
Reflecting on their relationship, Prost stated, "Sometimes I admit I was frightened by him; he was prepared to do anything." However, their dynamic shifted after Prost won the 1993 title. He recalled, "Ayrton, who won the race, raised my arm and wanted to share the top step with me. That moment changed our relationship."
Prost acknowledged the lasting impact of Senna on his life, sharing that he receives daily messages about their rivalry, with a significant portion originating from Brazil. "I’ve been living around this story for 30 years," he remarked.
Adding to the recent tributes, a mural commemorating Senna, created by Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra, was unveiled outside the Miami International Autodrome. This further emphasizes Senna’s profound influence on F1 and its fans.
As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, Prost’s reflections serve as a reminder of the passion and intensity that defined the rivalry between two of the sport’s greatest drivers, ensuring that Senna’s legacy continues to resonate within motorsport.
