Norris Claims Victory at Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Dedicates Win to Mentor De Ferran
Lando Norris triumphed in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, marking his first victory in Gil de Ferran’s home race, a poignant dedication to the former McLaren sporting director who passed away last year. This win also secured Norris a clean sweep of the Sprint weekend at Interlagos, with pole positions in both events.
Reflecting on the race, Norris commented, “I was pushing… It’s an amazing track, amazing fans, and this one was for Gil, one of my mentors.” He completed the race over 10 seconds ahead of second-place Kimi Antonelli.
Despite his dominant performance, Norris highlighted the challenges faced throughout the weekend. “I wouldn’t say the pace was quite as good as what I would have liked today… every session that I needed to be on top, I was, and that’s why I flew to Brazil,” he explained.
Notably, Max Verstappen’s impressive recovery from the pit lane to finish in third place caught Norris’s attention. “To be honest, seeing how quick Max was today — I’m pretty disappointed we weren’t quicker,” he admitted, emphasizing the competitive nature of the championship.
With the season nearing its conclusion, Norris remains focused. “Just keep my head down, ignore everyone and keep pushing,” he stated, as the championship standings remain tightly contested with potential for rapid changes.
