Verstappen Dominates Qualifying at Miami Grand Prix
Miami, FL – Max Verstappen secured pole position for the Miami Grand Prix, dispelling any doubts that recent fatherhood would impact his performance. The reigning Formula 1 champion clocked the fastest time, edging out Lando Norris by 0.065 seconds. This marks Verstappen’s third pole of the 2025 season and comes after a challenging sprint race where he incurred a 10-second penalty, ultimately finishing last.
Verstappen, who welcomed his daughter, Lily, into the world just days before the event, expressed confidence in his abilities during the post-qualifying press conference. “I don’t really listen to these kinds of silly things,” he stated, referring to speculation about how fatherhood might affect his racing. He further emphasized, “There are enough racing drivers in the past that have been world champion even after having kids."
The driver, reminiscent of former champion Nelson Piquet—who is Lily’s grandfather—acknowledged the importance of family but maintained focus on his racing responsibilities. “Clearly, it didn’t make me slower,” he noted, highlighting his swift adaptation to life as a new father while on the road.
Verstappen’s commitment was evident as he remained in contact with Lily and her mother, Kelly Piquet, throughout the preparations for the race. "It’s been good to spend a few days at home before coming here,” he added. “You want to make sure everything is okay.”
As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, Verstappen looks poised to defend his pole position against a competitive field keen on securing valuable points in the championship standings.
