Alex Albon’s Strong Form Elevates Williams Amid 2025 Season
Following a challenging start to the 2024 season, Williams has shown marked improvement in 2025, primarily led by Alex Albon’s consistent performances. After failing to score points in the first seven rounds of 2024, the British team has begun to climb the ranks, with Albon securing points in all but one race this season.
At Imola, Albon achieved a commendable fifth place, narrowly missing podium contention. Despite trailing teammate Carlos Sainz in qualifying head-to-heads (3-4), Albon’s race pace has often outshone his colleague’s, particularly during long stints. Albon noted post-race, “On pure race pace, we were fighting for P3, P4…maybe we were lucky with the VSC, but at the same time, we got unlucky again on the last safety car.”
Albon’s strategic racecraft has contributed significantly to Williams’ resurgence, showcasing an ability to manage tires effectively—a skill that allows for more tactical options during races. Team Principal James Vowles highlighted the positive impact of Sainz’s addition, stating, “Alex, like any elite athlete, needs to be pushed. They bounce off each other, allowing for a collaborative environment.”
As the team prepares for the upcoming races in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Albon expressed cautious optimism about maintaining competitiveness: “I keep telling myself it won’t happen again, but we’ve been unexpectedly quick.” This sentiment reflects both the uncertainty but also the promise that the upgraded FW47 chassis brings.
With Williams now consistently contending for points amid the midfield, the synergy between Albon and Sainz could prove crucial in addressing the competitive landscape as the season progresses.
