Williams Drivers Excluded from Singapore GP Qualifying Due to DRS Violation
Singapore – Both Williams drivers, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, have been excluded from the qualifying results of the Singapore Grand Prix following a DRS infringement. Initially qualifying 12th and 13th, the team’s rear wings were found to exceed the maximum limit of 85 mm during post-qualifying scrutineering.
According to the stewards, “the competitor admitted that, although their own measurements prior to qualifying indicated compliance, FIA officials’ subsequent measurements revealed a breach of the required dimensions.” Williams did not contest the accuracy or methodology of the FIA measurements.
Team Principal James Vowles expressed disappointment, stating, “This is bitterly disappointing for the team and we are urgently investigating how this happened. There is only one measurement that matters, and we fully accept the FIA ruling.” He confirmed that while no performance advantage was sought, the team will review its processes to prevent future occurrences.
Despite the exclusion, both drivers will start from the back of the grid in the race, as they recorded satisfactory lap times in practice. The team is permitted to reinforce the rear wing to ensure compliance, similar to concessions previously made for other teams in past races.
