2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to Pace the 109th Indianapolis 500
As anticipation builds for the 109th Indianapolis 500 on May 25, IndyCar has officially unveiled the pace car: the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Driving the car will be Michael Strahan, Pro Football Hall of Fame member and FOX NFL Sunday analyst, marking the car’s entry into the prestigious event.
The Corvette ZR1, equipped with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, delivers an astounding 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, making it the most powerful factory Corvette ever produced in the U.S. The pace car features a Carbon Aero package designed for enhanced performance, including dive planes, underbody aero strakes, and a rear wing that generates over 1,200 pounds of downforce at high speeds.
Acceleration figures are equally impressive, with the ZR1 capable of reaching 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds and completing a quarter-mile in 9.6 seconds at 150 mph. The car’s top speed is recorded at 233 mph.
J. Douglas Boles, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and INDYCAR, stated, "The race car-like performance of the Corvette ZR1 makes it the perfect car to pace the Indianapolis 500." Scott Bell, Global Chevrolet Vice President, added, “With a top speed of 233 mph, the Corvette ZR1 is the perfect fit to lead the Indy 500 field to green.”
Visually, the pace car features Arctic White paint with Jet Black accents, adorned with the Indianapolis 500 logo and racing stripes, while carbon-fiber wheels lend a race-ready aesthetic. This marks the 36th time a Chevrolet has served as the pace car, and the 22nd for a Corvette—a testament to the brand’s long-standing association with "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."
