Honda Racing Corporation Aims for Eighth Consecutive IndyCar Victory at Bommarito Automotive Group 500
As the IndyCar Series enters summer, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) USA is on an unprecedented winning streak, aiming for its eighth consecutive victory at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 in Madison, Illinois. Since the season finale of 2024 in Nashville, HRC has not lost a race, bringing its total wins this year to seven.
This remarkable performance comes in a season marked by intense competition against Chevrolet. Both manufacturers have historically traded wins, but Honda’s current dominance—comprising three street courses, three road courses, and the prestigious Indianapolis 500—has rewritten expectations for the turbocharged V6 era, which began in 2012.
HRC’s recent successes have significantly improved its standing in the manufacturers’ championship, responding effectively to Chevrolet’s previous competitive edge, which saw them earn the Manufacturers’ title with 10 wins in 2024. HRC’s ability to sustain its winning streak is notable, as it seeks to match Honda’s previous record of 14 consecutive wins set during the pre-turbo V8 era in 2004.
The latest victories included not only an IndyCar win by Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood but also a triumph for Meyer Shank Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the Acura ARX-06. HRC’s Vice President Kelvin Fu lauded the accomplishments: “This is an unprecedented start to the season for us,” highlighting the significant collaboration between teams and HRC’s engineering team.
Historically, Honda’s current run is juxtaposed against Chevrolet’s past dominance; Chevy secured the first 10 victories in the 2002 season and established a strong foothold at various oval tracks, including WWTR where they have won six of nine races since 2017. The upcoming 260-lap event will present a critical challenge for Honda as Team Penske’s roster, including past race winners like Josef Newgarden and Will Power, seeks to disrupt their winning streak.
The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 will be broadcast live Sunday night at 8 PM ET on FOX, showcasing whether Honda can extend its impressive lead or if Chevrolet will reclaim the top spot in what has already been an unpredictable season.
