Felix Rosenqvist: A New Chapter as Team Leader at Meyer Shank Racing
Felix Rosenqvist is entering a pivotal year in his IndyCar career as he embraces the role of team leader at Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) for the 2025 season. Having previously served as a supportive teammate to established drivers like Scott Dixon and Pato O’Ward, Rosenqvist finds himself at the forefront of a team eager to revitalize its competitive edge.
After joining MSR, Rosenqvist quickly made an impact, starting the season strong and sitting fourth in the championship standings after the first three races. This follows a performance trajectory where he finished twelfth in the 2023 standings after a promising start.
Despite a setback due to a blown engine during the iconic Indy 500, Rosenqvist’s technical insights have been noteworthy. His collaboration with race engineer Ross Bunnell, a veteran from Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR), has proven crucial. "Ross has been a perfect fit… he’s pushing my technical knowledge more than any other engineer,” Rosenqvist stated, highlighting how the new dynamics have enhanced his understanding of car setups.
The upcoming Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix marks Rosenqvist’s 100th IndyCar start, a milestone that underscores his evolution from a rookie to a leader. He recalls his initial desire to merely win races, now recognizing the complexities of leading a team toward championship success.
Rosenqvist credits a new focus on strategy and collaboration in his approach: “I’m studying the strategy aspect more than anything,” he explained, acknowledging the intricate tactical demands of IndyCar racing. This commitment to self-improvement extends to his interactions with new teammate Marcus Armstrong, who also transitioned from CGR.
Though Armstrong is currently positioned fourteenth in the standings, Rosenqvist believes their synergy is invaluable. "It’s been good to have him as an anchor… he’s been on pace everywhere," Rosenqvist said, indicating that Armstrong’s experience and insight have accelerated their integration within the team.
As the season unfolds, Rosenqvist and MSR are strategically addressing their performance gaps from the previous year. Acknowledging past shortcomings, he affirmed, "We’ve all agreed that the races were our biggest shortcomings… how do we tie everything together?"
With a fresh mindset and enhanced technical knowledge, Felix Rosenqvist is poised to rise in the IndyCar ranks, showcasing the determination and leadership necessary for both personal and team advancement.
