Deegan Sparks Controversy in San Diego 250SX Main Event
In a dramatic 250SX main event at San Diego, Haiden Deegan of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing dominated the field, but not without controversy. After initially trailing teammate Max Anstie, who led for the first six laps, Deegan executed a contentious maneuver. As he made his move for position, he inadvertently caused Anstie to crash after colliding with his front wheel during a tight turn. Deegan later apologized, insisting that he did not intend to take down his teammate. This incident echoes previous altercations, including another with teammate Jordon Smith in Detroit 2023. Anstie, while clearly frustrated, remained professional post-race, stating, “I know who I am racing against.”
Levi Kitchen from Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki continued to face challenges, finding himself down in the first turn for the second consecutive week. Despite a strong charge back to finish fourth, Kitchen remains the only factory rider in the 250SX West Division yet to reach the podium. Currently, he sits just nine points behind the championship leader, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the series. Kitchen, like his counterpart Chase Sexton, will need to convert speed into consistent results moving forward.
Cameron McAdoo made a noteworthy comeback, securing second place after a disappointing season opener. His performance in San Diego serves as a testament to his resilience after an extended absence from racing. In an emotional podium speech, McAdoo reflected on his determination, saying, “I always pride myself in being able to come back and respond after a long time off the bike, and tonight was pretty special.” His achievement, particularly after being placed in the B group for qualifying, highlights his potential as a frontrunner in the 250SX class.
The 250SX championship race remains wide open, with competitive performances and unexpected results shaping the narrative as the season progresses.
