Honda Backs New Sound Regulations for 2027 Motocross Championships
American Honda has announced its support for the forthcoming 109-decibel sound limit set to be implemented in the 2027 AMA Supercross, AMA Pro Motocross, and SuperMotocross Championships. This regulation, advocated by manufacturers and endorsed by the SMX League, AMA Pro Racing, and the AMA, aligns U.S. professional racing with existing standards in the FIM MXGP series, marking a significant move toward global consistency in motocross.
Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing & Experiential at American Honda, stated, “Honda is committed to making a positive impact on society, and we recognize that maintaining access to off-road riding areas is essential to the future of our sport.” The new sound limit, which reduces the previous threshold of 112 decibels by 3 decibels, aims to address community concerns and preserve vital race venues.
Research indicates that this reduction will yield substantial noise mitigation at extended distances, benefiting local riding facilities. In a strategic move, Honda will manufacture and sell series-compliant motorcycles by 2027, allowing manufacturers to focus on a single global specification, streamlining development across different championships.
To facilitate a smooth transition, Honda plans to offer technical assistance to privateer and support-team riders in the early rounds of the 2027 season, ensuring that competitive performance is maintained despite the updated sound requirements. American Honda’s commitment to advancing motocross through responsible practices underscores its leadership in the off-road motorcycle sector.
