Forkner Faces Challenges in AMA Pro Motocross Season Opener

In the opening round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, broadcasted on Peacock, Austin Forkner faced a challenging start to his season, finishing 31st overall with a 40-22 performance. The day took a turn when Forkner collided with another rider, believed to be Jeremy Martin, shortly after the start of the first moto. The incident occurred in a blind spot, causing Forkner to crash and subsequently retire from the moto.

Forkner was treated for a significant injury, requiring stitches in his left thigh before returning to compete in the second moto. Against the odds, he managed to complete the race, finishing 22nd after another late crash.

In a post-race team release, Forkner reflected on his day: “It was not an amazing day. I rode good and was close to the top guys in qualifying. I came together with someone on lap one of the first moto and tipped over… I got a footpeg into my leg, because I needed stitches from the medic unit between motos. There were just some racing incidents. I am okay, and I am ready to battle next weekend.”

Forkner’s performance also marked his first Pro Motocross race since the season finale on August 26, 2023, and he remained optimistic despite the setbacks. His Instagram highlighted his focus on health, stating, “The biggest goal for me this year was to make it through the season healthy, and I’m proud to have done that.”

For Triumph, Mikkel Harrup led the team with a 15-16 finish, securing 16th overall in his Pro Motocross debut, while Jordon Smith placed 19th overall with a 13-23 result. Stilez Robertson, who started the first moto, withdrew due to a recurring wrist injury.

As the series continues, Forkner’s resilience will be key in his pursuit of improvement and recovery.
