WMX Championship Update: Charli Cannon Makes Impact Despite Injury

The return of the Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX) to the AMA Pro Motocross Championship has intensified global interest, especially with competitors like seven-time Australian women’s champion Charli Cannon making waves. After a dominant performance in the FIM Oceania Women’s Cup, where she secured victory in all three motos and led Team Australia against the U.S., Cannon aimed for a strong showing in the 2025 WMX season.

Initially set for her American debut with the Quad Lock Honda Racing team, Cannon faced a setback when a crash resulted in a broken index finger, necessitating surgery just one week before the opening round at Fox Raceway. Given the abbreviated six-round format of the WMX series, she faced a critical decision regarding her participation.

Opting to compete despite her injury, Cannon demonstrated resilience, finishing in fourth, third, and second place in her first three rounds. Currently positioned third overall, she trails series leader Lachlan Turner by 18 points. The strategic decision to race before the midsummer break, which allows for recovery, may prove pivotal in her pursuit of the championship.

With the next rounds ahead, the WMX series remains tightly contested, emphasizing the competitive spirit within the sport.
