Craig Exits Yamaha Early; Eyes Future in World Supercross

In a significant move within the motorsports community, Christian Craig has announced an early termination of his two-year contract with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, citing personal and professional growth as motivators. The news, shared via Instagram, comes as Craig wraps up a challenging season marred by injury.

Originally signed to serve as a rider and developmental coach for the team’s younger pilots, Craig’s return to Yamaha was intended to bolster their 250 program. However, he faced considerable setbacks this season, missing the initial half while recovering from a knee injury sustained at the SuperMotocross World Championship finale. Despite competing in eight events and ultimately finishing 19th in the 450SX standings—with a season-best 11th place finish at both the Colorado and Utah rounds—Craig has not raced since the Salt Lake City finale in May.

His absence raises questions about potential implications, especially given Cooper Webb’s recent injury mid-season and the looming SuperMotocross Playoffs. Currently, Craig holds 29th in the 450SMX standings, necessitating participation in all three Wild Card races to qualify for the points-paying motos.

Speculation suggests Craig’s next move may involve participation in the FIM World Supercross Championship, hinting at an international career shift.

In his own words, Craig expressed gratitude for his time with Yamaha, stating, “I’ve had a lot of great memories riding blue including winning a 250 SX Championship together. Thanks to everyone for the support and will update you on my future soon.”

As the motorsports community anticipates his next steps, Craig’s early departure indicates a new chapter in his career is on the horizon.
