Cleveland Supercross Report: Davies Secures Points in Championship Race
Cole Davies achieved a third-place overall finish at the Cleveland Supercross, further extending his points lead over championship rival Seth Hammaker. With finishes of 5-4-1, Davies placed behind Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing teammates Nate Thrasher (2-1-4) and Landen Gordon (4-2-2), marking a podium sweep for the team.
While Davies faced stiff competition, Hammaker’s 1-3-6 finishes placed him fourth overall, allowing Davies to increase his lead from 19 points to 21 points in the 250SX East standings. The upcoming Philadelphia race provides Davies an opportunity to clinch the division title—an event significant to Hammaker, who is a local favorite.
“I could clinch the title next weekend, but I try not to think about that,” said Davies. “I just go race by race and see where it leads me. It was a rough night but to still make up points is good.”
Reflecting on his performance, Davies noted, “I feel like I was just a little too eager. I calmed down in the third race and let it come to me more, and it was good.”
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Davies as he aims to secure his first championship against the backdrop of Hammaker’s home turf in Philadelphia.
