Roczen Steps Back from WSX, Nichols to Take His Place

In a significant development for the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX), Ken Roczen will step back from competition, with Colt Nichols set to take over his spot on the PMG Suzuki team following this weekend’s Australian race. Roczen, a two-time WSX champion (2022, 2023), has been listed as a Wild Card competitor this season and currently holds the series lead, despite not participating in all events.

Roczen’s decision comes amidst a complex points situation, as he has been accruing points while competing. This year, Wild Card entries, including notable names like Haiden Deegan and Eli Tomac—who won round two in Canada—are not officially included in the standings, adding to the confusion about Roczen’s status.

As the WSX mandates teams to field two riders, PMG Suzuki has confirmed that Jason Anderson will now be paired with Nichols, marking a transition for the team ahead of the Swedish Grand Prix on December 6, followed by the championship finale in Cape Town, South Africa, on December 13.

Nichols, a seasoned WSX competitor with a moto victory to his name, is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming rounds. In the current full-time championship standings, Anderson leads with a five-point advantage over Christian Craig, while Joey Savatgy trails Craig by seven points. With Roczen’s departure, the contention for the title intensifies as the season winds down.
