Deacon Denno Triumphs at AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship

Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, TN – Deacon Denno demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill at the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, securing two titles despite missing last year’s event due to injury.

Competing in the 250 B and Schoolboy 2 (12-17) B/C classes, Denno delivered an impressive performance, finishing with scores of 2-1-1 and 1-2-2 respectively. Notably, he also recorded the fastest lap in the second moto of the Schoolboy 2 class. His achievements earned him the coveted Amateur Rider of the Year award.

Reflecting on his week, the 17-year-old rider stated, “It’s been awesome. Practice day was tough, but I quickly found my rhythm. I led the first 250 B moto until making a mistake with three laps to go, which cost me the win.” He later added, “The second moto of Schoolboy 2 was a challenge; after a poor start due to track conditions, I worked my way to second, securing my championship in the process.”

In the decisive third moto of 250 B, Denno faced nervousness but executed a strong start, ultimately pulling ahead to secure the championship. “I knew I was fast but the nerves were there. I pulled the holeshot and focused on maintaining my lead,” he relayed.

However, the final moto of Schoolboy 2 presented a different challenge. “My bike setup wasn’t optimal for the changing track conditions; it felt unstable, making it difficult to maintain my pace,” he admitted. Despite these hurdles, Denno adjusted to emerge victorious overall.

Denno’s performances signal a promising future for the Texas rider, and his adaptability under pressure highlights the skills necessary to compete at the highest levels of motocross.
