Forkner Debuts Triumph 450; Riders Adjust After Preseason Challenges

AUSTIN, TX – Austin Forkner makes his much-anticipated debut on the Triumph 450 this Saturday, marking a significant milestone for both rider and brand. Forkner admitted this will be his first experience on a 450 in a supercross setting, having only a day or two to adjust to the new machine. The development of the bike’s setup is an ongoing process since it is entirely new to the market.

RJ Hampshire, recovering from a scapula and rib injuries sustained during preseason training, described his comeback as humbling. He faced fierce competition during recovery, stating, “I was getting smoked” by riding partners, notably Malcolm Stewart, who has been performing exceptionally well at Baker’s Factory. Hampshire aims to replicate his strong performance from last year’s AMA Pro Motocross season, where he consistently contended for podium finishes.

Justin Cooper highlighted his focus on improving his technique in the whoops section, acknowledging that his tendency to jump them last season was a weakness. He noted significant differences in the whoops between qualifying, heat races, and the main event, where they become more challenging.

Jorge Prado, now riding for Red Bull KTM after a turbulent stint with Monster Energy Kawasaki, expressed confidence in his form. “We want to make all the races, that’s it,” he stated, emphasizing a focus on consistency rather than pressure. He expressed his excitement about returning to KTM, the brand with which he previously secured titles, remarking, “It feels amazing to be back home.”

This weekend’s race is poised to offer critical insights into the performance of the new Triumph 450 and the riders’ adaptations following significant offseason challenges.
