Deegan Penalized, Thrasher Advances in Final Supermotocross Standings

In a dramatic conclusion to the Supermotocross World Championship, Haiden Deegan received a five-point penalty from the AMA following aggressive racing tactics against rival Jo Shimoda in the second moto. The penalty, issued due to a previous warning for a collision with teammate Cole Davies at the Denver Supercross, relegates Deegan from fourth to fifth in the final standings.

Compounding his disappointing end, Deegan suffered a collarbone injury during the incident with Shimoda. “I gave it everything I had to win the championship,” stated Deegan in a Yamaha press release. “Props to Jo on the championship. He put up a helluva fight.” Deegan emphasized his commitment to recovery, vowing to return stronger.

Nate Thrasher, another rider from Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, benefited from Deegan’s penalty, moving up to fourth in the overall standings. Thrasher achieved a 5-4 finish in Las Vegas, showcasing resilience despite poor starts. “I struggled all day with setup and made changes every time I went out,” Thrasher noted. “To end up fourth, we’ll take it. I feel like I’m in the best spot that I’ve been in a long time. It’s time to fight for the supercross championship.”

As the season concludes, Shimoda captures the championship, setting the stage for an intense competition in the upcoming year.
