MXGP: Längenfelder Tops in Ernée; Championship Battle Heats Up

In a thrilling weekend at the MXGP of Ernée, Simon Längenfelder captured his fifth career Grand Prix victory, solidifying his position at the top of the MX2 championship standings. Längenfelder’s strong performance included a win in each race, bringing him an 11-point lead over Andrea Adamo, who finished second in both races.

Längenfelder set the pace early, maintaining crucial track position after a decisive pass over Adamo at the start of Race 1, eventually finishing ahead of Adamo, who secured his own third Fox Holeshot Award of the season. Behind them, Southeast’s Casey Oliver marked a career-best finish with a fourth overall, while Honda HRC’s Liam Lata achieved his first top-three finish, cementing his place in the competition.

Jago Geert’s expected dominance was disrupted as he recorded his worst finish of the season in Race 1, managing only 14th place after a crash. In Race 2, Geerts struggled further, finishing 12th, raising concerns about his physical readiness for the upcoming German GP.

With a keen eye on the title chase, Adamo expressed determination: “It was a solid weekend with good points. I gave everything in Race 2 and felt I had the speed, but I just couldn’t make the pass. The fight is on with plenty of races left.”

Längenfelder’s standout performance was complemented by a strong showing from Sacha Coenen, who rounded out the podium in Race 2, contributing to a podium sweep for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. Coenen acknowledged the need for improvement despite his podium finish, stating, "I’m working for wins, not just podiums."

As the championship unfolds, all eyes are on the upcoming GP in Teutschenthal, where rivalries and fortunes in the MX2 class could shift once again. Längenfelder heads to his home race next weekend with the red plate firmly in hand.
