Birmingham Supercross: Evan Ferry Faces Historic Setback
In a dramatic turn of events at the Birmingham Supercross, Evan Ferry garnered unwanted attention for his aggressive riding during the 250SX East Division heat race. The second-generation rider collided with Pierce Brown immediately after the finish line jump, resulting in both riders crashing and failing to qualify for the 250SX East/West Showdown main event.
In the subsequent Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), Brown secured a second-place finish behind his rookie teammate Caden Dudney, earning a spot in the main event. Conversely, Ferry’s performance in the LCQ was lackluster, finishing 16th and missing the opportunity to advance.
Post-race, Ferry was penalized for his aggressive behavior. The disciplinary actions included a fine, the deduction of two license points, and a five-point penalty in the championship standings. This penalty is particularly critical as Ferry has only accumulated three points across two main events this season—a 21st place finish in Daytona and a 20th at Indianapolis—rendering him with a net total of negative two championship points.
This unprecedented situation raises questions as it marks a rare occurrence in the sport’s history, potentially making Ferry the first rider to officially hold a negative point total during a competitive season.
