AMA Implements Key Rule Changes for Supercross Safety Following Arlington Incident

In response to recent safety concerns during Round 7 of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship in Arlington, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has revised its signaling protocols to enhance clarity on the racetrack. Notably, the lead-in light, previously red, will transition to yellow to align with existing cautionary signals.

Effective immediately, the red lead-in light will be known as the Yellow Lead-In Caution Light. This adjustment aims to standardize on-track caution indicators, which now include:

  • Yellow Caution Flags
  • Yellow Caution Lights
  • Yellow Lead-In Caution Light

The yellow signals indicate potentially hazardous conditions, permitting riders to jump and pass, albeit with heightened caution.

The AMA has reiterated that there will be no changes to regulations concerning red lights or the red cross flag. The following protocol remains in effect for these signals:

  • Red lights and the red cross flag signify significant safety concerns, taking precedence over all other flags.
  • Riders must comply with directives from race officials during these conditions.
  • Passing is prohibited, and riders must navigate obstacles individually, avoiding any double, triple jumps, or similar maneuvers.
  • Extreme caution is mandatory, with restrictions on racing or accelerating in unsafe manners.

The AMA emphasizes its commitment to improved communication and safety in the sport. Further details on flags and lights can be found in Section 1.6.14 of the 2026 AMA Supercross Championship Rulebook.
