Tim Gajser Exits Honda HRC After Record-Breaking Tenure

Slovenian motocross star Tim Gajser concluded a remarkable 12-year partnership with Honda HRC, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. Known as ‘Tiga 243’, Gajser’s tenure is highlighted by an outstanding collection of accolades, including four MXGP championships and one MX2 world title.

Gajser entered the Honda HRC family in 2014, transitioning from an amateur career that featured a European 125cc championship victory. Initially facing challenges with four-stroke machinery, Gajser quickly transformed expectations, earning his first MX2 GP win at the 2015 MXGP of Trentino. His ascendancy culminated in a championship victory at Glen Helen that year, signaling HRC’s return to prominence.

In 2016, Gajser moved to the MXGP class and further established his dominance by securing a second title with remarkable consistency, including a standout one-one performance in Qatar. Despite setbacks, including injuries in 2017 and a challenging 2018 season, he rebounded with a spectacular 2019 campaign, winning seven consecutive GPs and his third world title.

Gajser continued to excel amid the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, clinching a fourth championship in 2020 with a commanding performance that saw him finish over 100 points ahead of his closest competitor. The following seasons had their near misses, culminating in a fifth title in 2022, reaffirming his elite status in the sport.

In 2023, Gajser faced a significant injury but still secured two GP victories, signaling his resilience. The 2025 season began with promising results before an unfortunate incident in Switzerland cut his championship aspirations short.

His departure marks the end of an era for Honda HRC, where he leaves as the winningest rider in the team’s history, recording 47 GP overall wins, 116 race wins, and 125 podium finishes. Gajser’s legacy is characterized not only by his racing success but also by his growth and character, earning respect from teammates and fans alike.

“Tim has gone through a lot of difficult times, but each time he comes out stronger,” said a Honda HRC spokesperson. “He joined us as a talented boy with potential and leaves as a five-time world champion. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Gajser’s achievements have solidified his place as one of the foremost figures in motocross history, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his next chapter.
