Glendale Supercross Report: Roczen Triumphs in 450SX, Deegan Dominates 250SX
In an eventful night at the Glendale Supercross, Ken Roczen emerged victorious in the 450SX class, marking a pivotal win amid challenges for Eli Tomac. Haiden Deegan showcased his 250SX prowess with another commanding performance, while Levi Kitchen struggled with another poor start.
450SX Class Insights
Roczen secured the top spot after navigating a track that, while initially well-maintained, hardened as the evening progressed into familiar conditions for Glendale. “They did a good job of keeping traction and moisture in the dirt, but it ultimately became hard and slippery,” noted Jason Thomas, former pro and NBC analyst. Riders had to adapt their techniques, employing strategies like weighting the outside footpeg for better traction and maintaining lightness when entering the whoops.
Track and Strategy
The Glendale track is known for its hard and dry surface, presenting unique challenges. “In slippery flat corners, riders needed to consciously manage throttle application and body positioning,” Thomas explained. The start was particularly critical due to its length, which added both an opportunity for spacing and an increased risk of high-speed crashes. “A longer start can lessen first-corner contact, but if chaos does ensue, the consequences can be severe,” he added.
250SX Highlights
Deegan once again demonstrated his dominance in the 250SX category, solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor. Conversely, Kitchen’s repeated struggles with starts indicate more work ahead if he hopes to compete at the front.
As the season progresses, the insights from Glendale highlight the critical interplay between track conditions and rider strategy, setting the stage for upcoming events.
