Honda HRC Announces Injury for Jett Lawrence Ahead of 2026 Season
DADE CITY, Fla. (December 20, 2025) – Honda HRC Progressive has confirmed that reigning AMA Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross champion Jett Lawrence suffered a fractured right ankle and foot in a training accident at the Dog Pound facility. The 22-year-old Australian underwent surgery today to repair fractures to the talus and navicular bones, with an expected recovery timeline of at least three months.
This injury precludes Lawrence from competing for the AMA Supercross title in the upcoming season but leaves the door open for a return in time to defend his motocross titles.
“I’ll put the same focus into my recovery that I put into being the best athlete I can be each day,” said Lawrence. “My goal is to get this ankle fully healed up and return as competitive as ever.”
Lawrence’s teammate, Jo Shimoda, is also sidelined due to a neck injury sustained last month. For the January 10 AMA Supercross opener at Anaheim, the Honda HRC team will field Hunter Lawrence on the CRF450RWE and Chance Hymas on the CRF250RWE. Hunter Lawrence has consistently finished second overall in both AMA Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross for the past two years, while Hymas is poised for a strong comeback after recovering from ACL surgery.
Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing and Advertising at American Honda, expressed concern over the pre-season injuries. “It’s a shame because the atmosphere within the team leading into Supercross has been really strong. Jett would’ve been a favorite for the championship, but the most important thing is his complete recovery. We are fully committed to supporting Hunter and Chance, both of whom have shown they can contend for wins and titles.”
The upcoming season will test the resilience of the Honda HRC team as they adapt to these significant challenges.
