Honda HRC Progressive Signs Jo Shimoda for 2026 Following Championship Win
ALPHARETTA, Georgia – Honda’s factory team, Honda HRC Progressive, has announced the signing of Jo Shimoda for the 2026 season. This deal comes on the heels of Shimoda’s victory in the 2025 SuperMotocross 250 Championship, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The 23-year-old Japanese rider demonstrated exceptional talent throughout the 2025 season, securing multiple podium finishes and displaying consistent competitiveness that culminated in his championship title. Shimoda’s win makes him the first Japanese rider to achieve an AMA professional championship.
Born in Suzuka, Japan, a pivotal site for Honda’s operations, Shimoda commenced riding at four and steadily ascended through the ranks of motocross. After a successful amateur career with Honda’s Factory Connection program, he transitioned to professional racing in 2019. His early career included notable achievements, such as being named the 2020 AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year.
After a brief stint with another manufacturer, Shimoda returned to Honda in 2024 and significantly improved his performance in 2025. He captured the AMA Supercross 250 West opener and overcame a hand injury to finish second overall in the AMA Pro Motocross standings, earning two overall wins. Shimoda then excelled in the SuperMotocross Playoffs, securing two additional victories that sealed his championship.
Shimoda also showcased his adaptability on the international stage, racing the CRF450RWE at the Motocross of Nations and delivering strong performances with 2-6 results.
In his statement, Shimoda expressed his pride in joining Honda HRC: “Since I was young, I’ve thought HRC is one of the most advanced teams in the whole motorsports industry. To be a part of that is amazing.”
Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing & Advertising at American Honda, praised Shimoda’s growth and contributions to the development of the CRF250RWE. “We’re excited to see what we can do next together,” he said, further emphasizing the team’s confidence in Shimoda’s capabilities going forward.
Shimoda will campaign the Honda CRF250RWE as he aims to defend his title and continue his upward trajectory in the competitive landscape of motocross and supercross.
