Jo Shimoda Recognized at Japan Sports Prize Amid Successful 2025 Season
Tokyo, Japan – Jo Shimoda, the rising star of motocross, has received the prestigious Japan Sports Prize, highlighting his impressive achievements in a sport that remains underrepresented in the country. “It’s an honor just to be considered for an award like this, let alone to win it,” Shimoda commented post-ceremony. He emphasized his pride in representing Japan and his hopes that this recognition will elevate the profile of motocross in his home country.
Following the awards, Shimoda was celebrated by Honda and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) at a special event in downtown Tokyo. There, he interacted with fans and participated in a press conference alongside HRC Progressive Team Manager Lars Lindstrom. The event also honored other local athletes, including 2025 JMX Champion Yuki Okura and renowned freestyle BMX rider Rim Nakamura.
“Everyone at Honda is proud that Jo has been able to enjoy great success on the track in 2025,” stated Yasuhiro Yokoyama, Off-Road Racing Manager for HRC. “The Japanese public had the chance to meet him and express their appreciation for his efforts.”
Shimoda, currently recovering from a neck injury sustained during a training crash, is set to continue racing with Honda HRC Progressive in the 2026 season. As he builds on this year’s success, Shimoda remains focused on delivering results for his sponsors and advancing the sport in Japan.
