Barcia Set for Long-Awaited Aussie Debut at AUS-X Open
American Supercross star Justin Barcia is finally poised to compete in Australia, eight years after his initial announcement for the 2018 AUS-X Open was thwarted by an eye surgery. The significance of his debut at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong adds an exciting layer to an already elite SX1 line-up.
Barcia joins a competitive roster that includes Japan’s Jo Shimoda, who will make his 450 class debut, and Christian Craig, the Townsville season-opener winner, aiming to maintain momentum. French rider Cedric Soubeyras adds further international depth, while Australian talent Luke Clout leads the local charge.
The event promises high-stakes competition, especially with Barcia and fellow American Ken Roczen racing aboard Suzuki bikes. “It feels like unfinished business for me,” Barcia stated, expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity to compete alongside renowned riders. “I’ve heard how passionate the Australian fans are, and I can’t wait to put on a show and fight for the win.”
AUSX CEO Adam Bailey emphasized the excitement surrounding Barcia’s participation. “To finally have him confirmed eight years later is incredibly exciting,” he remarked. “Barcia is aggressive, unpredictable, and a fan favorite, which promises an extraordinary night of racing.”
The AUS-X Open is set to showcase top-tier Supercross action, with a focus on delivering a thrilling experience for both participants and fans alike.
