FIA Announces Revised Points System for WEC LMGT3 Teams’ Trophy Starting 2027
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has unveiled a significant change to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) LMGT3 Teams’ Trophy effective in 2027. This revision consolidates team performance by allowing results from both cars in a two-car team to contribute to a single LMGT3 Teams’ classification.
Presently, each car accumulates points independently, treating them as separate entries. The FIA emphasized that the new structure “places greater emphasis on overall team performance,” aligning competitive strategies with collective results.
In the current season, the LMGT3 class features nine partner teams representing nine manufacturers, each fielding two full-season cars. The change aims to enhance collaboration and strategy among team members, thereby intensifying the competition in the endurance racing landscape.
