Sexton Ends SMX Season with Concerning Injury

Chase Sexton’s season concluded in disappointing fashion, as the Red Bull KTM rider suffered a significant crash during the final moto of the SMX season in Las Vegas. Positioned in fourth, Sexton endoed in the motocross section, resulting in a hard fall that left him down for several laps. Medical personnel from Alpinestars attended to him while yellow caution flags were deployed.

KTM has reported that Sexton sustained a mild concussion and a weak shoulder, pending further evaluation next week. This injury is likely to sideline him from the Motocross of Nations for a second consecutive year.

Adding to Team USA’s woes, Haiden Deegan is also out due to a collarbone injury, prompting a scramble for replacements. RJ Hampshire is expected to step in for Sexton on the 450, while options like Justin Cooper or Cooper Webb are being considered to fill Deegan’s slot on the Yamaha YZ250F.

Sexton’s recent struggles include a crash while leading the 2023 finale in Los Angeles and a broken hand sustained during the first lap of the 2024 finale. Notably, this marks the end of his tenure with Red Bull KTM, as he is set to join Monster Energy Kawasaki in 2026.
