Washougal MX Report: Key Highlights and Results from the Latest Race
In a backdrop dominated by challenging track conditions, the Washougal National showcased several notable performances and setbacks this past weekend.
Max Vohland achieved a season-best finish, securing a top-ten result in both motos despite struggling with arm pump due to the hard-packed track. Vohland noted that the usual softer dirt at Washougal helped him manage his braking but required a different approach this time. The NorCal native expressed a mixed affection for the track, citing his historical success there.
In stark contrast, Jorge Prado faced significant difficulties, experiencing a dramatic decline in performance. After a promising start, the Kawasaki rider fell from the top ten to outside the top 20 in the second moto. Reports indicated that dust conditions may have contributed to his troubles, raising concerns within his team about his recent performances.
Mitchell Harrison celebrated his best ride of the year, finishing with a top-ten overall placement. He emphasized the importance of a strong qualifying performance that allowed him to secure a favorable gate position. Remarkably, this marked the third occasion he has finished 10th overall at Washougal, and it was also his first attempt at the nationals in five years.
Additional commendations go to John Short, who made a remarkable recovery in moto two, advancing from 38th to 18th, and Marshal Weltin, who demonstrated his competitiveness by passing 13 riders throughout the event.
With two weeks until the next competition, teams and riders are looking to regroup and refine their strategies heading into the SMX.
