Tomac Tops in Historic Performance at Hangtown

Hangtown, CA – In an electrifying display at the Hangtown Motocross Classic, Eli Tomac claimed victory in the opening 450 moto, marking Jett Lawrence’s first "non-injured moto loss." This milestone win not only reinforces Tomac’s legendary status—now second all-time in career 450 moto victories—but also signals a strong return after nearly two outdoor seasons sidelined by injuries.

Aaron Plessinger showcased impressive speed, leading much of the race until a strategic miscalculation saw him mistakenly believe there were only two laps remaining when four were still on the board. This allowed Lawrence to close in during the final meters, but Plessinger held on to secure a prominent finish ahead of the reigning champion.

"Tomac is back, and so is AP," Plessinger asserted, acknowledging his momentum entering the outdoor season without the burden of injury from supercross, a condition he has not enjoyed in years.

Jett Lawrence, who has dominated the 450 class with stellar starts, faced challenges in this outing. An equipment choice by Honda—a knobby rear tire instead of the conventional scoop—coupled with a missed shift that caused him to hit the rev limiter, resulted in a less-than-ideal start. Despite his smooth riding style that typically allows him to dictate pace, Lawrence struggled to catch the front-runners, a stark contrast to his previous outings.

Tomac’s victory not only reestablishes his dominance but also raises questions about Lawrence’s adaptability in future races. As Plessinger continues to improve and Tomac regains form, the Summer motocross series promises to deliver intense competition ahead.

The next race will be pivotal for both Lawrence and his competitors as they aim to reclaim their footing in this high-stakes battle for supremacy.
