Thomas Covington Appointed Director of Racing for FIM World Supercross Championship
SX Global has announced the appointment of Thomas Covington as the new Director of Racing for the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX). Covington’s hiring follows Kurt Nicoll’s decision to step down from his role as Vice President of Race Development at the end of the 2025 season. Nicoll’s leadership has been pivotal in the championship’s global expansion and commitment to competitive excellence.
Covington, a former international motocross racer, boasts significant credentials. He secured his first AMA Amateur National Championship at Loretta Lynn’s in 2003 and added titles in 2008 and 2010. He later competed in the MXGP World Championship, achieving four Grand Prix victories in Mexico, France, and Turkey, and represented Team USA at the 2017 Motocross of Nations.
In addition to his racing achievements, Covington has extensive experience in motorsport management. He previously led the P1 Offshore division for Powerboat P1, where he directed international powerboat and jet ski racing events.
Kurt Nicoll will continue to support the 2025 season to facilitate a smooth transition to Covington, who will assume his new responsibilities immediately.
