Vialle Eyes Future as KTM Faces Critical Decisions
Tom Vialle, a prominent figure in the motocross scene, is shifting his focus towards the AMA Pro Motocross Championship while maintaining his long-term aspirations with KTM. Despite training on a 450cc bike in preparation for future competitions, Vialle will compete in the 250 class this summer.
The pivotal question looms: will KTM retain Vialle for 2026, or allow him to pursue options with rival teams? Currently, the only confirmed 450cc rider for KTM’s 2026 roster is Aaron Plessinger, as negotiations with Chase Sexton remain ongoing. KTM asserts that its financial challenges in Europe will not affect its operations in North America and is actively seeking contracts for the upcoming season, which prominently includes Vialle.
Vialle, a two-time MX2 FIM Motocross World Champion, has expressed his desire to remain with KTM, fostering loyalty amid speculation. However, with new eligibility rules for the 250SX class, Vialle’s future in Supercross is becoming increasingly defined. The regulations state that a rider victorious in the 250SX Championship can compete in the class for a maximum of four years total. After that, winning a second championship limits eligibility to three years, complicating Vialle’s potential transition.
As Vialle approaches the start of the Pro Motocross 250 Class on Saturday in California, he remains focused on securing the title while preparing for the subsequent SuperMotocross World Championship playoff rounds. The outcome of KTM’s decisions regarding Vialle will be crucial not only for his career but also for the team’s competitive strategy moving forward.
