Yamaha Motor Europe Restructures Motocross Grand Prix Programme
Yamaha Motor Europe has announced a strategic overhaul of its FIM Motocross World Championship programme, marking a significant shift in its competitive focus. Effective immediately, the company will integrate management of the Yamaha Factory Racing MXGP team in-house, thereby concluding its factory involvement in the MX2 category to concentrate resources on the premier MXGP class.
This restructuring is part of Yamaha’s broader strategy aimed at reclaiming championship dominance in motocross. The changes coincide with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Motorsport Research and Development facility at the Yamaha Campus in Gerno di Lesmo, Italy, which will centralize MXGP developments. This facility will implement a model similar to that used in Yamaha’s Road Racing and Rally programs.
According to Andrea Dosoli, Division Manager of Yamaha’s Motorsport Division, “Yamaha has a proud history in Motocross Grand Prix racing. As we pursue our ambition to return to the top step of the podium in the premier class, we are refocusing our resources for the 2027 season.” He highlighted increased investment in MXGP alongside the restructuring of the EMX250 and EMX125 programmes.
The specifics of the new team structure, including management details and the full rider line-up, will be disclosed in due course. Dosoli expressed gratitude towards previous teams and their contributions, noting the instrumental roles played in achieving the 2021 MX2 World Championship and multiple manufacturers’ titles.
As Yamaha shifts its focus, the motorsport community will closely monitor further developments in its racing strategy.
