Farewell to the Lamborghini Huracán GT3: A Legacy of Success
As Lamborghini gears up for the introduction of its new Temerario GT3 in Q1 2026, it marks an important transition by bidding farewell to the Huracán GT3, a car that has become synonymous with success in the GT racing world.
Debuting in April 2015, the Huracán quickly made its mark, clinching its first victory at Monza during the Blancpain Endurance Series. The Grasser Racing Team’s trio of Andrew Palmer, Fabio Babini, and Jeroen Mul won by over 37 seconds, setting the stage for a remarkable competitive career.
TheHuracán’s full customer rollout in 2016 led to multiple championships, including the Silver Cup in the Blancpain GT Series and the GT Asia Series title with FFF Racing Team by ACM. Notable successes continued with Barwell Motorsport, who secured five British GT teams’ titles and earned three class victories at the 24 Hours of Spa.
In North America, the Huracán entered the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2016, achieving significant results including a victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2018, heralding Lamborghini’s entry into major endurance racing victories.
The evolution of the Huracán to the GT3 EVO in 2019 mirrored its previous triumphs with a solid showing at Daytona, retaining Lamborghini’s GTD manufacturers’ title. Furthermore, Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli’s performance during the 2019 Blancpain GT Series nearly clinched all possible titles, missing only the Sprint Cup teams’ championship.
The Huracán continued to shine through the 2020s, capturing the GTD class at Daytona for three consecutive years—an unrivaled achievement. The 2021 entry into the DTM series adapted to new GT3 regulations solidified its competitive prowess across various championships, while K-PAX Racing dominated the GT World Challenge America.
In 2023, the new EVO2 performed admirably at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Iron Dames achieving a fifth-place in class finish. The 2024 season saw Mirko Bortolotti secure the DTM drivers’ championship while JLOC clinched the GT300 title in SUPER GT.
Culminating its storied journey, the Huracán achieved a historic first victory at the 24 Hours of Spa in 2025, claiming the top spot finally after 11 attempts, thanks to Bortolotti, Jordan Pepper, and Luca Engstler.
In total, the Huracán GT3 has amassed over 100 titles and more than 200 race wins—an impressive legacy that will continue as the car remains in customer hands for several years to come, likely competing heavily in 2026 at the 24 Hours of Daytona where its factory-supported appearances may conclude.
With the Huracán’s departure, the motorsport landscape eagerly anticipates the arrival of the Lamborghini Temerario GT3, set to follow in the revered footsteps of its predecessor.
