Lamborghini to Begin Testing for Temerario Super Trofeo in May 2023
Lamborghini’s development of the Temerario Super Trofeo is set to accelerate as the track testing phase is scheduled for May, according to Rouven Mohr, interim head of motorsport and technical director. The next-generation Super Trofeo was unveiled at the Lamborghini World Finals at Misano last November, with a competitive debut planned for 2027.
“We are now at the assembly phase,” Mohr stated. “The theoretical part is finished, and testing will most likely start in May.” The Temerario Super Trofeo will share numerous components with the upcoming Temerario GT3, which will make its competitive debut at the Sebring 12 Hours next month.
Lamborghini has not yet specified a mileage target for the Super Trofeo’s twin-turbo V8 during testing. However, they have successfully logged over 15,000 kilometers with the GT3 model since its initial rollout last summer, exceeding their internal benchmarks ahead of homologation.
Mohr expressed confidence in the Super Trofeo’s development, citing the shared parts with the GT3 model, aimed at reducing complexity and costs. “To build a proper GT3 car is complex—duplicating that for Super Trofeo would not make sense for the gentlemen drivers,” he explained.
Upon its debut, all of Lamborghini’s single-make championships in Europe, Asia, and North America are anticipated to transition to the new Super Trofeo platform simultaneously. However, Mohr acknowledged the potential for production constraints due to high demand for both the road and GT3 variants. If necessary, Lamborghini will prioritize championships to transition to the new model.
“There is no plan for the Temerario to enter GT2 racing,” he clarified, noting that although Lamborghini has participated in GT2 events with Huracán conversions, it is not a current priority.
For further updates on Lamborghini’s motorsport initiatives, fans and stakeholders should stay tuned as testing progresses.
